Clean rubber bumper is clean. Very clean. But really it is those wire wheels that caught my attention.
I really like this interesting dark red color. It works well with the contrasting black top and bumpers.
These things get a lot of grief. The only real problem is that paint wouldn’t stick to the rubber and the old design just looked so much better and. . . yeah I see their point but these are a great way to get into a classic British roadster.
And continuing the theme of weird taxis, I thought this Mercury Villager wasn’t around anymore. I don’t really see exactly why it needs three taxi roof signs, but it has got them. And a very interesting and possibly unintentional tri tone paint scheme.

Monkee bait. And Snuze bait behind it. You can also see where I got my name for the Oppo Hunt (Thanks Dusty!). Go #team altoidsaddict !
And a small milestone. I found this bemusing.
And a sleepy doggo for your time. He is very happy with his new collar.

I wonder if anyone has made a fiberglass bumper set for those, they could be painted and maybe not expensive to replace if you messed it up.

I have seen one or two with painted rubber bumpers but never a fiberglass one. If you are going to change it, why not just backdate it to the prettier metal bumpers? It doesn't really make sense but less sensible this GS have made it to market so maybe.

Oh so they can do that like the 280Zs, yeah that’s better.

A friend of the f
am
ily had a rubber-bumper MGB in a gorgeous golden yellow color when I was younger....the older cars look better, but I think the rubber bumper MGs aren’t that bad compared to a lot of other cars...cool little old roadsters, those!

Did you ever get to ride in it? I think they get a bit of a bad rap but they are not that bad looking. Just worse by comparison.

Sadly no, but I loved the fact it had three wipers! :P

I like that Volvo!
I finally put the 850 back together, but I still don’t have the new bolts. I just reused the old ones but won’ t drive it other than to move it around the driveway.
I'm leaving tomorrow for a work trip, and when I get back I hopefully will have my bolts, and then I can get the AC done, and then start on my 240!

They did do a pretty good job of molding them to complement the ‘60s body lines, instead of just grafting on flat, spring loaded diving boards. Always liked how the lines around the badge on the hood flowed right down into the bumper. I think they just look bad compared to the elegant chrome bumpers that came before, but if the car had been designed to look like that from the start, nobody would really complain.

Ooh exciting times! Bolts holding what on?
The 240 needs some love. There are quite a few old 240s being daily driven around here, but it helps that there is a great specialty shop for Volvo's close by.

Oh, I agree...the chrome bumpers and the like looked better, but for what they are, the rubber ones were pretty well integrated without looking terrible! :)

The last 240 was made in 93, I think with even the youngest being 27 years old, most need some love in one way or another.
The 850 rear suspension is a packaging feat, very low and very compact, and it's basically attached to the car by 2 big bolts. The shocks also help center and align it, but I wouldn't trust them to carry load. But the big bolts are torque to yield fasteners, meaning they can't be reused. I ordered 2 new ones from my local Volvo dealer but they couldn't tell me when they would arrive.

Interesting. That's not something you want to take a chance on.

Yeah, I wouldn't either. I mean its fine to move around the driveway or whatnot, but I wouldn't take it over like 5 MPH before I put new bolts in and properly stretch them
